We are in need of volunteers who love cats! As a volunteer working with our shelter cats, your job will be to brush, pet and exercise our feline friends. You’ll also help with feeding, cleaning cages and scooping litter. You should have a firm knowledge of cat behavior and safety, and be able to strongly read a cat’s body language. As a volunteer working with cats, you will be required to adhere to our policies and procedures. Cat volunteers will work closely with the Team Leader, front desk and kennel staff. Tetanus shot required.

Training is mandatory. You will be notified by mail what your workshop training dates will be for your area of expertise. Workshop dates are one hour and will be held on Wednesday evenings or Saturday mornings. You’ll be able to choose the day/date that works best for you. Pre-registration for workshops is REQUIRED. The Humane Society reserves the right to refuse applications who do not meet the requirements necessary to perform the volunteer task.

I have no physical limitations in assisting cats.
I have a strong understanding of animal handling, behavior and control.
I will be required to attend 1 training session before
being authorized as a volunteer cat assistant.

Hold Harmless Agreement

I agree to hold harmless the Humane Society of Genesee County in the event of any bodily (or other) injury to myself while at the shelter or on shelter related business while working as a volunteer. I acknowledge that I have been advised to secure any insurance needed to serve as a volunteer for the Humane Society of Genesee County.

Tetanus Waiver

I understand that because I may handle animals, a tetanus shot may be required for volunteers (if designated in job description). I am responsible for providing a copy of my tetanus shot record when my volunteer application is submitted. I release the Humane Society of Genesee County from all responsibility in the event of an animal bite or injury.
