Customer Service, Community Events and Public Relations Representative

The Humane Society of Genesee County is looking for special people who have an outgoing personality and know about animal care & handling. Customer Service volunteers will help potential adopters choose the appropriate pet, do a “meet and greet” with the animals and adopters, and guide customers through the process of adopting from the Humane Society. Our Customer Service Representatives will learn and adhere to the policies, procedures and requirements of adopting from HSGC, and work closely with the Team Leader and front desk staff. Tetanus shot required. Volunteers may also help with Community Events to promote the Humane Society at off site local events, such as “Safety Days” at Home Depot, pet adopt-a-thons, children’s events, etc. These tasks usually involve manning a booth, setting up, taking down, and passing out literature. Our volunteers who wish to help with Public Awareness may do anything from working on committees to help plan events, to being a greeter with a shelter pet at the entrance of our facility, to helping with mailings. If you love working with people and animals, this job is for you!

Training is mandatory. You will need to complete an orientation in “Dog Walking” and/or “Cat Care & Grooming” before working in Customer Service. After completing 10 documented volunteer hours in each (you must do each orientation if you wish to work in both categories) category, then you will be selected to work closely with a volunteer instructor. The volunteer instructor will teach the new Customer Service volunteer techniques, approaches and methods to help with this very important volunteer task.

Prerequisite: Dog Walking, Cat Care & Grooming
