Humane Education

For over seventy years, the Humane Society of Genesee County has been serving the needs of pets and people in the community.  Through programs including Adoptions, Pet Therapy, Fostering, Golden Friendship, Cruelty Investigation, and Humane Education, the Humane Society is able to reach many areas throughout the community.  Mary and Friends

One of the most vital programs is Humane Education. Each day our Humane Educator ventures out into the city.  In the city alone, one staff person visits 34 inner-city elementary schools and as many suburban schools.

Studies have also shown that there is a direct link between animal abuse and child abuse and other violent crimes against people  Nearly every serial killer and serial rapist has, in his past, a documented history of animal abuse leading up to the murders and rapes.

The Humane Society of Genesee County is the only organization teaching children how to properly care for pets.  We respond to these children by providing them with the tools and understanding to interact positively with pets.

If your school, Boy or Girl Scout Troop, or other children's organization would like a visit from our Humane Educator, please call (810) 744-0511 for more information.
